I painted this beehive with non-toxic, bee-friendly paint in anticipation for the coming spring. The inhabitants of this hive will be Italian honey bees, known for their mellow disposition. These two boxes will be where the bees live. If the hive is producing enough honey for themselves and is healthy enough, a third box will be added to the top. The owner will harvest honey from that box in the fall.
A maple dresser, sanded, re-painted, and stained. The design on the top is inspired by the sacred geometry of our DNA.
Moon Burst II
This mandala was chosen by the band Goose as the cover of their debut album Moon Cabin that was released at the start of this year. You can learn more about this band and listen to their music at www.gooseband.us.
This was my second mural project at The Blue Ridge Napping Institute. It is a dome sauna that is nestled among the trees by the river that runs through the land there. When the sauna is completed, the rest of the dome will be covered with dirt, grass and moss, and the snail will look like it is carrying life on its back.
I had the opportunity to paint two murals during my two week stay at The Blue Ridge Napping Institute, a retreat center in North Carolina. The idea for this mural was drawn from the mandala design titled, "Climbing". It is 4 feet in diameter and greets you as you walk into the main entrance at the napping institute. Any of the mandala ideas pictured on this site can be translated into a mural or painting such as this one.
